That unit behaved really strange with the knobs' rotation created backwards parameter control (100 to 0 instead of 0 to 100). My next product to try was the Korg nanoKontrol2.

I didn't install the LDP8 driver so I don't know if that would have allowed me to set up the pads as on/off buttons. I borrowed the Akai LPD8 and the knobs worked well but the pads didn't do anything.

So I went looking for alternatives as sometimes people don't have a master keyboard with all those controls or they don't want to spend the money or they don't have the space close to their computers. When I'm playing for practicing, jamming along with backing tracks or try to set the sound for a recording I just use the P6 controls in real-time and it's just a joy. So now I use the P6 to help program my sounds/presets and I must say it's so much more fun doing it that way than having to reach for the mouse for absolutely everything. I made a copy of that as well with the name 'emergency BU' because I know that somewhere down the line I will probably forget I'm working with my 'template' and royally screw that up. Then I saved that as my 'template' for creating new sounds. But I'm not a complicated man so I set up a signal chain that incorporates everything I expect I would need in a preset. I realized I need to keep my signal chain the same between patches to make this work. I'd like to set up the sliders for the different bands in a graphic eq. Then I set up a row of buttons to control individual effect blocks on/off status. Then I set up some other knobs to control: I set up the P6 so one row of knobs controlled amp parameters: So I first started with my Nektar Panorama 6 (P6), which has a lot of control knobs, switches and even some sliders.

I use Studio One Pro from PreSonus (used to be a beta tester for Cubase for 15 years but then changed to Studio One) and that program allows you to set up different controllers and connect them to parameters in your different plug-ins. So when I realized Line 6 had implemented Knobs and Switches for automation in your DAW, I started thinking that if Line 6 parameters can be controlled using my software, then the parameters should be available for tweaking in realtime. The OS of the Helix Native is easy to understand and navigate so no complaints there.

Compared to using a mouse for all editing, I much prefer using a control knob to change a value or a button to turn something on/off. So when I installed Helix Native I was a bit frustrated that I could not get my hands on it the same way. One of the reasons I love the Kemper is that it has a lot of dedicated knobs and buttons combined with (according to my personal taste) a great OS.
